The surprising benefits of Avoiding Fermented Foods

The Benefits of Avoiding Fermented Foods

Learn how fermented foods are affecting your life, how to take control of your own body and to start a journey to an unprocessed life.

If you, your spouse, or either of your parents is over 40 years old and has any health issues, frequent headaches, or bloating, it’s important for you to read this. Even if you are young and feel perfectly healthy, you should take the time to read this to gain a better understanding of what you are eating and how to enhance your health and overall well-being.

What are Fermented Foods or Probiotics?

Fermented foods, often referred to as probiotics, contain “live microorganisms.” These microorganisms live and eat the food you consume, living and multiplying in your stomach and gut. This process can lead to increased cravings for snacks and a feeling of bloating. Incorporating fermented foods into your diet can alter your body’s internal environment. Over time, your body may adapt to them, and foods that do not align with this new environment could cause issues such as acid reflux, gastric discomfort, and stomach pain. For instance, many individuals over the age of 40 may find it difficult to drink orange juice without experiencing gastric acidity.

Examples of Fermented Foods

  • Yeast. You’ll find it in most baking products and Sourdough starters –microorganisms are fed to multiply and get stronger for use in baking products;
  • Dairy products like cheese, cultured milk, and yogurt. Most dairy products are fermented with few exceptions, which will be described here;
  • Cocoa and cocoa butter;
  • Coffee;
  • Vinegar;
  • Table Olive;
  • The full list of fermeted foods can be found here.

Quick note: You can see how these microorganisms are activated and growing in this video.

You can begin your journey to cleanse your body in two ways:

  • The cold turkey method, which involves eliminating all fermented foods at once and eating as cleanly as possible (we’ll discuss later how even vegetables, fruits, and meats may not be completely clean),
  • Or you can gradually give up one type of food at a time. This allows you time to adjust to the new lifestyle while discovering enjoyable recipes without those ingredients.

If you choose the second method, as we did, I suggest you first eliminate two main categories to achieve visible results and improve your health: Yeast/sourdough starter from baking products and fermented dairy products.

Try it for yourself! Save this post in your bookmarks (the star on the left above) and try not to eat fermented food (you can eliminate only yeast/sourdough bread and fermented dairy) for 2 weeks.

The Negative Effects of Fermented Foods

Now that you have an understanding of what fermented foods are and how often they are in your daily meals, let’s discuss why it may be beneficial for you to eliminate them from your diet and the negative symptoms that may arise from consuming them.

Digestive Issues and Bloating

Have you heard of “beer belly”? Why do they call it that? Why specifically beer and not another type of alcohol? Let me explain. Beer contains a high amount of microorganisms that can multiply in the stomach and gut. Everything you eat will be quickly processed and will feed these live microorganisms inside you. It’s quite surprising, isn’t it? They like sugar and carbohydrates, which is why many weight loss diets are low in both.

This process can make you feel bloated and may lead to weight gain since you may feel the need to eat more and snack frequently.

Consuming fermented foods regularly can lead to issues such as gastric acidity and stomach pain. When you eat these foods, your stomach produces more gastric acid, creating a more acidic environment. It’s not normal to rely on medication for gastric acidity or to endure stomach discomfort, nor should you have to avoid enjoying foods like orange juice. You should be able to eat any natural fruits and vegetables you like without discomfort.

Weight gain and obesity

Have you ever watched a sourdough starter being made? It needs to be fed daily to stay alive. If you haven’t seen it, watch here. Look how is growing.

The same phenomenon occurs with yeast and all fermented foods; they are alive in our stomachs and continue growing when we eat whatever we consume. They like mainly sugar and carbohydrates. The more we eat, the more they grow and need more food; that’s why we snack all day.

When we eat foods that our bodies do not tolerate well, such as fermented foods, spoiled foods, or foods containing chemicals, our bodies respond by trying to eliminate them. This reaction often involves retaining water to help expel the unwanted materials through vomiting or diarrhea, which are the body’s last resort.

When we frequently consume fermented foods, two main things occur:

  • First, our body retains water to help eliminate foreign substances;
  • Second, microorganisms in our gut feed on sugars and carbohydrates, causing our body to accumulate excess fat since it struggles to eliminate what is in excess.

In this way, we accumulate extra weight or even get to obesity, we don’t give our bodies any chance to be healthy and normal.

Bad Morning Breathing

Many of us wake up with really bad morning breath. After we eliminate fermented foods from our diet, bad morning breath will highly improve or even disappear.

Headache

A headache is your body’s way of alerting you that something is wrong. It can indicate that you’ve eaten something bad for you, prompting you to stop and reflect on your diet. Many headaches are linked to what we consume. Common triggers include fermented foods, chemicals, or spoiled items. When you experience a headache, you must consider what you’ve eaten recently and take steps to address the issue.

The Benefits Effects of eliminating Fermented Foods

We observed the effects of eating fermented foods and identified symptoms that you might relate to. Now, let’s see what’s happening when we stop eating them.

Eating unprocessed foods, often called “clean eating,” provides several health benefits, including mood enhancement, slower digestion and weight loss, better sleep, and better body control. You can also choose processed foods, but avoid ultra-processed ones.

Improved Digestion and Nutrient Absorption

Once you eliminate fermented foods and switch to whole foods, you’ll be surprised to find that you won’t feel hungry as often and won’t need to eat as much. Your digestion will slow down, and your nutrient absorption will improve.

Loosing weight

Our bodies are created perfectly by the Almighty Creator, and once we remove fermented foods from our diet, we will notice weight loss occurring rapidly because it will go to its standard size. In the initial phase, our body will shed some of the water that it has retained. After that, it will start eliminating fat (if we have) until we settle for an average weight.

Faith quotes, your body is meant to heal itself if you Provide the right Environment, say no to fermented foods

No more medication

Our bodies are meant to heal, to eliminate anything harmful for him. So, eating something wrong will start removing it (by creating acidity, retaining water, and creating headaches for us to know something is wrong). Taking medication minimizes or excludes our body’s ability to confront harmful substances.

Foods tastes much better

It will be a surprise to see how delicious apples and oranges are, along with food in general. Once you eliminate fermented foods, you’ll soon discover a variety of regular foods that taste so much better, foods that you wouldn’t typically find appealing. But I leave that for you to discover; let me know your thoughts on this in the comments section.

Heal your soul, not just your body! Healthy without fermented foods

The feeling that you are in control of your body

Heal your soul, not just your body. The feeling that you are in control of your body It allows you to enjoy your favorite foods without harming yourself. You no longer have to struggle with food, calories, or exercise. You are aware of what you’re eating. If a fruit isn’t good, you’ll know; if you ate something outside and it wasn’t good, you’ll know.

What to eat?

Dairy products

  • Raw milk – Raw milk is best sourced directly from local farmers. If that’s not possible, opt for unpasteurized milk;
  • Whole milk;
  • Homemade cheese – milk and lemon juice, and 15 minutes; that all you need for your homemade cheese;
  • Cream cheese – just blend your homemade cheese with some milk water;
  • Homemade mozzarella – raw milk and lemon juice, but here you have to be more patient to make this;
  • Whipping/Heavy/Fresh cream homemade – Pour the raw milk into a large bowl or pot and let it sit in the fridge for 3 days. After 3 days, use a spoon to scoop out all the fat from the surface, forming fresh cream.
  • Homemade butter – made from homemade fresh cream; Beat the homemade fresh cream with a mixer until the butter separates. Strain the liquid and enjoy;
  • Kaymak (clotted cream) — boil raw cow milk on low heat for about 1 hour without stirring. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 6 hour. Refrigerate for 1 day. After that, the kaymak will be a thick solid layer of cream that has developed on top of the excess milk. Carefully skim that layer off, transfer to a plate, folding over.

As you can see, these are very easy to make at home; you only need milk and lemon juice for some recipes. Some dairu product store-bought versions have added bacteria and other ingredients you don’t want.

Whole foods

  • Fresh fruits – seasonal fruits or frozen fruit are great, with one exception: banana;
  • Vegetables;
  • Grains – rice, oats, barley, pasta;
  • Nuts and seeds;
  • Beans and lentils;
  • Meat;
  • Fish;
  • Schellfish;
  • Eggs;
  • Cold pressed oils;
  • Sugar.

Stories of Health Improvements after Eliminating Fermented foods

  • Our story

    My husband, who is 45 years old, and many of our relatives in the same age group relied on medication almost daily to eat certain foods. However, after we were guided by the Almighty Creator, we started replacing yeasted bread with unleavened flatbread, and the bloating began to disappear. We then eliminated all fermented dairy products from our diet. My husband decided to stop taking any medication for gastric acidity and endured 3 days of stomach discomfort, but after that, he no longer needed any medicine at all. He lost over 23 kg ( ~50 lbs) in 6 months.

Conclusion: Making Informed Dietary Choices

For me, fermented food is essentially just spoiled food.

While it has long been believed that this type of food is beneficial for us, it’s time to challenge that notion and discover what truly supports our bodies. With so much information — and misinformation ———available, it can be difficult to discern what to believe and what not to believe.

In our family, we guide after The Almighty Creator — we have a strong belief in God, and when we experience doubts, we pray and reflect on the creation He has provided for us.

Smell and taste. If it doesn’t smell good, don’t eat it. If it doesn’t taste good, don’t eat it.

    1. Peace be upon you! In my article, I do not recommend any fermented foods. Raw milk kefir and unpasteurized cultured cheese are examples of fermented products. The only dairy items I recommend are those that are not fermented or do not contain any fermentations, as I listed earlier. For those who are lactose intolerant, I highly recommend goat milk-derived products that are not fermented, just like with cow’s milk.
